fully integrated design optimization

fully integrated design optimization (FIDO) can produce a novel structure which satisfies all the necessary structural and design requirements. It has been propsed for design optimization of structures. Figure shows an example of FIDO to create arch-like structures. As an example, FIDO started from simple design domain with two supports. We may simply consider the self-weight to produce the best possible topology. The new layout of structure can be determined from the first topology optimization (TO). We use this firt layout to create the design domain for the second round of TO. After the second TO, the continuum structure can be finally transformed into the discrete structure. For the next step, we can find the shape of structure using form finding technique such as force density method. Then, size optimization is carried out to choose the member size of structurearch. Note that the code ISADO is used all the process.
